April's "À Noite no Mercado" it's counted fava beans*

It took place on April 13th the À Noite no Mercado, an initiative promoted by the Mértola City Council, integrated in the Rede Alimentar de Mértola and which aims to raise awareness of the local community and all visitors for the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, local, seasonal and sustainable.

As has been the habit in past editions, À Noite no Mercado was marked by the sharing of several dishes made with the theme ingredient, which this time was the fava bean.

But before the meal there was space for a presentation by Grupo Coral da Mina de São Domingos and two conversations. The first one with Otília Eusébio, from the Associação das Terras e das Gentes da Dieta Mediterrânica, about the nutritional properties of the fava bean, its benefits for our health and its importance in our diet, followed by a presentation by the Centro de Agroecologia de Mértola on the importance and benefit of the bean crop for the soils.

The Malacate Project joined this initiative, in partnership with De Boca em Boca - Mértola, to present local tales, myths and stories. At first, Filipe Abreu, Pedro Bravo and Rita Sales gathered around bowls to thresh fava beans in the company of visitors, where they shared and invited the sharing of stories about fava beans. After dinner, it was time for a theatrical presentation of tales and stories about Mina De São Domingos and its people.

The next editions of À Noite no Mercado, which will once again feature the participation of Projeto Malacate, will take place on June 22, at Mercado de Mértola, and on September 28, once again at Mercado da Mina de São Domingos.

*"Are counted fava beans" is a Portuguese expression that means that something is already known, a sure thing or inevitable.
