It happened in July...

Updated: Nov 15, 2022

We started the summer with a lot of activity taking place in July, at Mina de S. Domingos. This month, the Guided Tours - Open Sky began. This activity aims to make visits to the historical and artistic heritage of Mina de S. Domingos. In the early morning, because summer is strong in this place, between 8 am and 9:30 am, we invited the most curious to visit the ruins of Mina de S. Domingos and the public interventions of MALACATE. To this end, we had the privileged point of view of a local ambassador and an artist, who, together with the MALACATE team, told us about their interpretation and memory of the space and artistic interventions. On the first weekend of July, the visit was guided by Manuel Passinhas and the local ambassador Nuno Martins, and participants were able to learn more about the historical and cultural heritage of the Mina de São Domingos.

The second guided tour was conducted by the dancers and choreographers Marina Nabais and Ricardo Machado and took place on the weekend of the 16th and 17th of July. On this tour, in addition to the visit to the Mina de S.Domingos, we were able to learn a little more about the creative process of these artists and the relationship they establish with the places where they develop their creations and at the end, the participants also had the privilege of watching a small performance created specifically for this activity.

But the artists Marina Nabais and Ricardo Machado were at the Mina de S.Domingos in July also to start their participation in the Malacate Project. This duo of choreographers will design a new dance creation specifically for this location and with the community - "Entropy". The show will premiere at the end of 2022, at Mina de S.Domingos, and its preparation includes two Movement and Dance Workshops and an artistic residency that will take place between September and December this year. And it was in July, between the 12th and 16th, that the first Dance and Movement Workshop took place, at Mina de S.Domingos, based on the exploration of the concept of "entropy" through the body, space and also through the relationships that are established in a group. The next Workshop will take place in September, between the 14th and 17th.
