Rui Paixão develops a work of investigation and exploration of new possibilities for the language of contemporary clown and physical theater with a focus on artistic creation for the public space.
He graduated in theater at the Academia Contemporânea do Espetáculo (2011-2014) and began his professional career as an independent artist in 2015 after having collaborated as a performer in the street arts and contemporary circus company Radar 360.
In 2015, at the age of 20, he was considered by IMAGINARIUS - Santa Maria da Feira International Street Arts Festival the revelation of street arts in Portugal and won the OFF CIRCADA award at the CIRCADA festival in Seville as an emerging artist. In 2017, the GODOT project was born, which brought together all the experience achieved and studied previously and defined a language and a defense for what Rui Paixão would begin to call New Clown.
He developed the Omnium State workshop and challenged himself to a new creation, Samsara. Also in 2017, he won the award for best street show at the Feria de Teatro de Castilla e León in Spain with the show Lullaby and was a co-creator and performer of the show FERIDA co-produced by Imaginarius and FiraTàrrega.
In 2019, he joined Cirque du Soleil in a new creation in Hangzhou, China, becoming the first Portuguese to join the company as an original creator.
