Artist residency program for professionals
of performing arts from donor countries
ABOUT THE RESIDENCES
Open Call, Wide Space is an artist residency program for performing arts professionals from EEA Grants donor countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway).
The Malacate project offers two one-month residencies at Mina de São Domingos with the aim of bringing artists closer to the local community by developing a close relationship of sharing.
The residencies will culminate in an informal public presentation of the work developed.
The first residency, to take place during the month of May, presents a multidisciplinary proposal by three artists - Ana Brotas, Karina Sletten and Viviana Cárdenas, who propose to “start a series of meetings, events and spontaneous encounters with residents to design a emotional map that relates memories, stories and gestures about water, as well as memories of the Mine and its water technologies”.
In January of the next year, MALACATE welcomes at Mina de São Domingos the collective composed by Stein Henningsen and Sarah Gerats, from the mining town Longyearbyen, with a performance project. The two set out to “work abroad on a daily basis and take walks around the village, Mina, and through nature shaped by industry and reacting to sudden changes in weather and alternating environments”.
